Rocky Hatton

For such a spectactular performance, it was a kind of anticlimatic fight. Hatton belted Castillo really hard once on Saturday night, and that was it. What is this, the UFC?

The crowd sure seemed like it was. I adore inebriated Englishmen as much as anyone, but that "Hatton Wonderland" song was too much. Enough to make you nostalgic for "Eye of the Tiger." What's next? It Came Upon a Midnight Hatton? I'm Dreaming of a White Hatton?

There's been no shortage of post-fight press on whatever will happen next. Here's a taste (thanks, Fred):

I know your tongue is firmly in cheek about the Hatton song, but I thought it was great. The crowd was great, the KO was great. Castillo brought his B game, but, unlike the ringsiders, I don't believe that he is a "shot" fighter.

I just think that only his A game could have contended with Hatton that night, and he knew he didn't have it. I also think that shot to the ribs, whether it was a liver shot or not, was plenty after all the head shots he had taken.

I really think Hatton-Mayweather is the perfect media compliment to the De La Hoya-Mayweather bout. The media machine went on the fritz for DLH-PBF, but the fight, as solid as it was, didn't give full satisfaction (people wanted Mayweather to get hammered for once, or for DLH to die trying. What we got was close, but not quite.)
